LOWER CAPE FEAR HOSPICE CENTER PROJECT:
TILE SEARCH SOFTWARE
Language: Python
Date: Summer 2015
Employer: Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center
The LCFH Center approached the UNCW Computer Science department about wanting software for searching for and visualizing locations of donated tiles on memorial walls within the center. The tiles receive many visitors, and the previous method of identifying tile locations was manual through large binders of information.
My first programming professor presented me with the opportunity to help the LCFH Center with this task. Using Python and Python bindings for Qt, I created a GUI-based software application in which a user (a visitor to the hospice center), can search for tile(s) based on donor or honoree inputs and receive details of the found tiles (their inscriptions and specific location, given as both coordinates and a visualization in respect to the entire walls. The program runs on a mounted tablet at the center.
